Join us as The Flushing Remonstrance perform their original live accompaniment to the films of Maya Deren.
Maya Deren has been called the "mother of the trance film," and was one of the most groundbreaking filmmakers of our time, influencing filmmakers such as Chantal Akerman, Orson Welles, Ingmar Bergman, Stanley Kubrick, David Lynch, and Yorgos Lanthimos. Her films are intensely personal, symbolic, and surreal, and are a truly otherwordly experience to see.
The Flushing Remonstrance will be performing their acclaimed live scores to Deren's "At Land" (1944), "Ensemble for Somnambulists" (1951), "Meshes of the Afternoon" (1943), "Ritual in Transfigured Time" (1946), "The Very Eye of Night" (1958), "Witch's Cradle" (1943), and Stan Brakhage's tribute to Maya Deren, "Water for Maya" (2000).
